DelCom Foundation announces Merger

Effective January 17, 2014, the local Delta Dollars for Scholars chapter merged its activities into the DelCom Foundation, effectively now operating as the DelCom Foundation Student Scholarship Committee. Tom Johns, the former President of the Delta Dollars for Scholars chapter, illustrated the merger in this manner, “Now, by unifying the strengths of our combined talents under the DelCom Foundation, we see greater potential to provide services to our students.”

The DelCom Foundation was established in 2011 for the purpose of supporting, enhancing and enabling the students, teachers, staff and faculty of the public schools in the DelCom School System. The Delta Dollars for Scholars Chapter was chartered in 2008 as a local chapter of the National Scholarship America organization. The express focus of Scholarship America is for scholarships and educational support of postsecondary education.

According to Johns, the transition to work in a supporting role with the Foundation has been very smooth. We are currently looking to roll out a new program of scholarships to the graduating seniors of the Delta Class of 2014. This new program’s application will be available to students very soon and funding is already secured.

Richard Gill, DelCom Foundation president stated the merger in this manner; “ This is a logical and well timed combination of the two groups. Each group has in their heart the interest and support of both present and future students attending DelCom Schools. The activities supported and presented by the Scholarship Committee will continue as well as the regular community functions of the Foundation.”
